Knock out.
Fat city. John Huston. Brilliant. I never really got on the Stacey Keach train but this movie clearly tells me I was just not paying attention. John Huston as a director finds the right combination of shots, mise-en-scene and story to captivate your attention completely. Keach and Susan Tyrrell play their roles with confidence and elan. I thought this was a far better film now than people may have thought when it was released. It is gritty and the best part is, that it shows without trying too hard, how blind people are to their own failure at accomplishments in life. Knock out in the first round. (1972)
