The state of mind

Being there. Hal Ashby. Many people call it a comedy or a satire but I am not sure it fits either. I felt it went beyond what a comedy or satire usually is. I felt this was much more a comment, a note, a cry-out for something that we all loose and very few of us keep as age progresses. Innocence and the silent sanity it holds. The final scene could be perhaps one of the most important scenes for a movie to be shot. It throws your impression of what you have seen until then into a complete different direction, yet does not give you a bad feeling. In your life, the depth of perception and state of being depends on you. Life, is a state of mind. I would watch a movie that makes me see that any time. (1979)
