Bob

Bob le flambeur. Jean-Pierre Melville. I had to watch this movie since it was directed by the same director who would later direct one of my favourite movies from French cinema (Le Samouraï). This was one of his first and it shows. I think the time has come where some movies are too dated due to various reasons. Although I don’t think the movie is bad, I do think that the audience is too educated in movie principles to accept this one. I think it is a blueprint of his later movies and you can appreciate the first twinkles of his skill. He succeeded in one thing though, this movie must have the most cigarettes smoked per minute ever. I was even longing to light one myself (as a complete non-smoker). (1956)
