Shakespeare done right.

Ran. Akira Kurosawa. A masterpiece. Of course the story/script is good since it is based on King Lear by Shakespeare, but what truly sets it up for masterpieceness, is the different way he shot the action scenes. I know many people will talk about the colors and music score, but if you watch the action scenes they are all wide or long shots without many close-ups. Most directors nowadays shoot close shots and edit them together to cut the action into 12 different angles and whoohoo you got action… I prefer Akira Kurosawa’s style by far. It creates the illusion of immersion into the scene and for this movie it worked for my taste. Now considered a masterpiece when released not truly accepted by the movie going audience. Please watch it as the final farewell of a GrandMaster of movies. (1985)
