How the movies got big, bigger, biggest.

How the west was won. John Ford, Henry Hathaway, George Marshall, Richard Thorpe. Now this is a movie you should watch in IMAX as a minimum. It was one of two movies shot in this special three screen Cinerama and unless you watch it letterbox (at least) there is no use to watch it. It is a spectacle and it is big in every way. It is not the story, the acting, the music, the shots or anything else that stands out specifically but combining this to tell the story of the history of the U S of A makes this movie have a big impact. Watch it out of curiosity and a glimpse of the olden days of big movie making and westerns. (personal note: lesson 1 on how to score a girl in less than 1 minute is shown here.) (1962)
